“Nails show signs of long term dehydration, becoming brittle with ragged cuticles, especially through winter,” says manicurist Jocelyn Petroni. As we all know, lovely nails can work wonders for hands that have seen too much weather, weeding or washing up.

The shape to go for, says Jocelyn, is short and natural with a gently curved edge– and a glossy red ochre is
this season’s rouge noir.
