We sat down with Australia’s renowned premium beauty and nail expert, Jocelyn Petroni, to discuss her pioneering new treatment in the clean beauty space.
WHAT IS A ‘CLEAN MANICURE’?
The clean manicure is an evolution of our signature Jocelyn Petroni manicure, ‘The Naked Manicure’, which is ultimately designed to restore nail strength and health.We are now also offering a targeted ‘Clean Manicure and Pedicure’ for our clients who are making decisions for their daily life that take into account a particular regard to conscious consumerism. This new treatment focuses on the overall health of the nail, and excludes harsh ingredients that can be found in most manicure and pedicure treatments. We have handpicked products and ingredients that help protect the skin and the environment, as well as packaging that is biodegradable. The treatment is completely personalised to your own individual nail concerns, which makes it unique from the common manicure.
WHY ARE YOU OFFERING THIS?
My clients are demanding a healthier alternative to traditional manicure options and many are recovering from the overuse of synthetic nail treatments which occlude the nail, suffocating it from airflow and resulting in a weaker, softer nail. This weakening of the nail surface has a knock-on effect on the nail bed and root, which sees critical blood and nutrient flow reduced. Women often get trapped in the cycle of having them done and redone which results in a myriad on nail concerns and leaving yourself open to fungal infections. The ‘Clean Beauty Manicure and Pedicure’ is the ultimate uplifting, wholesome, healthy and eco-conscious beauty treat.
IS THIS THE NEW TREND?
There’s a growing trend towards healthy bare nails that are shiny and look healthy, with pink nail beds reflecting good blood flow, strong white edges and no discolouration.
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
As with all Jocelyn Petroni treatments, a thorough consultation is conducted and a personalised approach taken with each client and their nails. The treatment is curated with completely natural and pure products – The MAVALA Crystal Nail Polish Remover, which is colorless, odorless and acetone free, is an eco-friendly nail polish remover safe enough to pour onto a plant. The product is produced under cold conditions, reducing energy consumption during the manufacturing process.
The Cuticle Softener is based on home remedies using ingredients such as Aloe Vera for nourishment of nails and cuticles, ethically sourced Certified Organic Honey rich in antibacterial powers with healing benefits and anti-inflammatory capabilities. It also includes certified Organic Lemon essential oil helping to strengthen weak brittle nails, as well as keeping the nails bright, shiny and clean, also acting as a anti-fungal agent too.
To finish, the natural nail plate is buffed to a glassy breathable finish free from an occlusive polish application and a natural keratin nail treatment is applied to set and strengthen.
WILL THIS MANICURE LAST AND HOW DO YOU PREVENT EARLY CHIPPING?
The ‘Clean Beauty Manicure and Pedicure’ is known to last two weeks on fingers and six weeks on the toes and the condition of the nail plate is strengthened and repaired during each stage of the treatment.
