CASUAL CHIC
There is nothing cooler than a bold red lip worn with a bit of laid-back edge. “Blot your lips between coats to keep the colour strong,” advises Victoria Baron, official make-up artist for Chanel. Perfect for a night out with friends, this look depends on flawless skin with just a touch of colour. “Apply a dusty-pink cream blush to the apples of your cheeks,” advises Baron, who also applied a gold illuminating powder from Chanel’s new Maximalisme de Chanel collection to the high points of the face. Add undone hair and a crimson manicure and you’re good to go.

MOLTEN HOT
An elegant night out is your opportunity to ramp up the opulence with sheeny metallics. “Start by lining the inner rim of the eyes with a taupe pencil then smudge out with an eye contour brush,” says Baron. To give eyes depth, follow with a base of matt brown eyeshadow on “lids and sockets, blending towards the temple”, advises Baron. Her application tip for a perfect metallic finish? “Pat pigment onto the lid, the inner corner of the eyes and the inner lower lash line using a flat eyeshadow brush,” she says. Finish with a shimmery metallic lip gloss and nail polish.

NAIL TIP
“A short nail always looks neat and sophisticated. This length is also ideal because it suits any shade, from bright vibrant red to dark near-black colours.”

DARK AND SMOKY
Ideal for that black-tie event in your calendar, the smoky eye delivers go-to sophistication. Baron suggests starting with a black shadow applied “along the lash line, blended through to the socket”. But don’t just stick to the classic steels, greys and blacks; deep, gold-flecked green offers a stylish new take. “Apply it over the lid then blend into the socket and along the lower lash line,” says Baron, who adds drama with curled lashes and a couple of coats of black mascara. Complete this upscale look with a gold-flecked red manicure.

DAYTIME STYLE
Luminous skin and a poppy matt-orange lip keep this look stylishly understated. To create skin that glows, Baron likes to prep with a nourishing serum and moisturiser then “spray the skin with Chanel Hydra Beauty Essence Mist”. To even out the complexion yet keep the coverage sheer, Baron advises forgoing foundation for a combination of tinted moisturiser and concealer. For a perfectly matt pout, she suggests using a lip pencil to “lightly shape and outline the lips” before applying two coats (blotting between) of orange-red lipstick with a lip brush.

BERRY-LICIOUS
Lips that look deliciously juicy are a great way to add instant polish, says Baron, who custom-blended lipstick shades to create her perfect raspberry tone. A good trick to keep the effect stylishly casual is to ditch any hard lip lines and “blur the edges slightly”, advises Baron. Deceptively minimal, all you need now is eyeliner and mascara. “Line the inner and outer waterlines using a waterproof liner in black,” says Baron. “Then finish by curling the lashes and adding black mascara.”

NAIL TIP
“I love the Chanel Le Vernis in Opulence for its glamour and seductiveness. Being a multi-toned metallic, it feels festive without being too over the top.”

SHEENY SKIN
The way to gleaming skin is gold highlights. “Luminous skin looks so beautiful,” says Baron, who highlighted cheekbones, temples and cupid’s bow with a gold-toned luminiser. For shimmering eyes, start by applying a sheeny rose-gold cream eyeshadow to lids, then add extra pop with a touch of gold powder eyeshadow on the inner corners of the eyes. To keep the shimmery prettiness, lips can be low-key. “I like to use a sheer balm just to add a bit of sheen,” says Baron.
