Supplements are also essential for optimal skin and nail health, which includes giving your body a good hydration soak and high oil content. I love Vida Glow Original Marine Collagen, which is easily added to a daily glass of water. I have mine as part of my morning ritual while breastfeeding my baby, Georgia.
“As the temperature drops the skin’s response is to produce less oil and less water,” says facialist Jocelyn Petroni. “We don’t have the warmth and humidity in the air which help to keep the sebaceous oil glands soft and natural oils flowing. So, if you have oily skin, it will be less oily but if your skin is dry, it will be much more dry.”
Facialist to some of Sydney’s most famous faces Jocelyn Petroni was happy to answer our cry for help. On what not to do, she say “The worst thing you could do is to squeeze the pimple itself when it is still forming as that will aggravate the pore and create more sebum and bacteria. If you must squeeze, do it when the pimple has reached its peak to stimulate healing rather than exasperate the forming of the pimple which can in turn scar.”
A thorough cleanse. You must double cleanse—the first to remove make up, dirt and debris the second to deep clean the pores and tissue. The first cleanse can be a micellar water, oil or cream cleanser. The second cleanser needs to be more deep cleaning, so use a foam, fruit acid or deep cleansing gel.
Fortunately, there’s plenty you can do to restore your nails, starting from the inside. A key mineral is silicium, “which helps nails to grow faster and be more resistant,” says Petroni. It’s found in vegetables, prunes, whole cereals and garlic, so eat up.
So could this small switch make all the difference? A sign that you might need a more nourishing formula: your skin feels tight after washing. “What that means is that the dirt and pollutants are gone – but so are the essential oils that help keep your barrier healthy,” explains Petroni
“They see the visible difference in their skin from upgrading an existing facial to include a light therapy treatment” she says. Petroni adds the treatment suits all skin types, but is particularly helpful to those who have dehydrated or sensitive skin, and those prone to eczema.
“At night our skin absorbs more than during the day, which is why night treatments are more active and results based, whereas day products are more protective. At night our skin repairs and regenerates and its absorption abilities increase, taking in more that it can during the day.”
Chanel Le Vernis in ‘Ballerina’ is my favourite everyday, every-event nail polish – it’s classic, sexy and sophisticated. I can wear it from business meetings to black tie events. The soft pink compliments all skin tones and enhances the natural colour of a healthy nail plate.
